FUN WITH FACIAL HAIR

So one more weekend comes to a close, with an unnecesarily large amount of money spent and of course, nothing to show for it except for maybe you know, some "memories" or something.
A friend of mine had a xmas party where he truly outdid himself. Food, alcohol, xmas lights and a "xmas tree" (I put that in quotes because it was really just a dead tree from his outdoor patio that he spray painted green and put ornaments and lights on). As usual, the attendees left a little to be desired but all in all, not too bad. Later on, for someone's birthday, found myself at Crobar dancing, buying too many $12 drinks, and trying to cheer up my unhappy friend. We got the best pickup line there in the little area where they let you smoke: "Yeah just so you know, my father is a fire marshal and they're coming here in half hour and going to give everyone smoking a $250 fine. " Yeah ok buddy. Another guy told us he could take the both of us at the same time. One poor guy even asked us why girls didn't like guidos. Hmmmm...
Ah, club people.... how I love thee.
I really should've gone to that goddamn bluegrass show.

WAKE UP! AND SMELL THE COPIES.

So I successfully didn't do a damn thing this weekend, which doesn't make for anything interesting to talk about. Well actually that's not true. The truth is I didn't do anything BAD this weekend, which is just as uninteresting as doing nothing anyway. I DID go to Mars 2112 (one of those stupid space-themed restaurants with horrible over-priced food and tired, bored actors/staff) and then to see the Lion King on Broadway with my parents and my nephew for his birthday. So, that was fine I guess. Family obligations are always umm...fun, especially when it involves Times Square in mid-December.

If anyone wanted to know how Syriana was, I can tell you that it was OK. Really political, a little hard to follow at times, but pretty good all in all. Was it worth $10? No. But there are only about two movies I would say are.

I got a seat on the subway today because "CHIVALRY IS NOT DEAD IN AMERICA!" he said. Well first he said I "looked better" than he did so I deserve the seat more than him, and then went on about chivalry. Apparently he had a few screws loose though, because the rest of the ride back to Brooklyn he was listening to headphones and dancing, then letting out some hoots and hollers along with it. I was just grateful for the seat.

MUSIC

Way back i
n 2001, Air and Beck got together and did a collaboration for Air's new album at the time, 10,000 Hz Legend. And since no one really gave a shit about Air at the time, this song went mostly unheard which really sucks, because it's a great song. So here, in my opinion, the most underappreciated Beck song ever. (I mean, is it just me? Has everyone heard this song and never told me about it?)

HOT BUTTERED SOUL

So after 4 years of Livejournal, I decided to switch over to Blogger. Why? Well, because it's nicer, I think. In each post I think I'm going to try and include a little bit of photo and a little bit of music so I can share some of the random gems I seem to come across so often. Feel free to send me stuff too.

Anyway, it's become apparent that our apartment is falling apart. It's kind of like that movie The Money Pit except less extreme, and our house doesn't fall down Mousetrap style when someone trips over a rug. But first bedbugs, then one toilet flusher broke, then the other, then the light in the living room stopped working which they fixed, and now none of the lights on the other half of the house work which includes my room, Meg's room, Eric's room, and the bathroom. So basically, I've been living with one clamp light in here and one in the bathroom for over a week. Out of force of habit, every time I walk into any of those rooms, I still flip the light switch on , which further aggravates me since it obviously never goes on.

Also, I've been vaguely sick for the past two weeks and frankly, I'm just sick and tired of being sick. Of course not sleeping much doesn't help much. What sucks too is that these coughing fits really interfere with my almost-a-pack-a-day smoking habit. Yeah yeah, I know.

MP3:

Did anyone know Beth Gibbons of Portishead put out another album afterwards? I didn't. But I always wished she did. And to my delight, I've discovered it thanks to the good ol' SVA silkscreening lab, always on top of things. I'm a little late though, it came out in 2002. The album is called Out of Season and I guess it's a collaboration with Rustin Man, whom I've never heard of. I downloaded most of the album and it's pretty awesome (but what could she sing on that's not). Anyway, this song is fucking amazing. I've listened to it non-stop since I got it. Enjoy.
